Kyle Siskron-Leonard is a certified peer specialist, activist, musician, and volunteer with over 22 years of residency in the Altoona Area. He obtained his secondary education from the Altoona Area School District. While in this district, he actively participated in various groups, such as marching band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, orchestra, string ensemble, pit orchestra, foreign language club, and drama club. He was appointed Student Director for The Mousetrap and Into the Woods during his senior year of high school.
In 2017, he graduated from the district and dedicated his senior project to raising over $400 and surplus donations for the Central PA Humane Society through a talent show.
Siskron-Leonard later pursued music education at Penn State and completed 125 credits before withdrawing from the program to focus on his career as a consultant for two medical marijuana dispensaries. Currently certified in peer support in Pennsylvania, he advocates for policies that prioritize student well-being and mental health, recognizing the fundamental role of a positive and nurturing school environment in academic achievement.
He intends to introduce policies that protect students from physical and emotional violence. He will also empower teachers with the necessary resources to support their students, including advocating for fair compensation, professional development opportunities, and supplies. He plans to amend the district's transportation policies to enable more students to access transportation.
Siskron-Leonard aims to work with the Pennsylvania General Assembly, Department of Education, and Governor Shapiro to advocate for funding and statewide legislative change. According to him, property taxes alone cannot sustain the district. He also believes that the General Assembly must meet its obligation to provide quality public education to students in the commonwealth, as mandated by the state constitution. To that end, Siskron-Leonard is pushing for increased state funding, support for necessary educational reforms, and an end to the overreliance on property taxes to fund public education.
Siskron-Leonard is a former member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA), National Association for Music Education (NafME), and the Music Teachers' National Association. Currently, he is a member of the Pennsylvania Peer Support Coalition, Families United for Change, Indivisible Blair County, March on Harrisburg, and Put Families First PA.
